Hummmm! It looks as if you shoulda turned X-grain; you wouldn'ta had to cut a hole. I like flamming boxelder, it's a very pretty wood and easily turned. The shape compliments the "flames" very well. I like the piece.
Congrats Anthony, the Wong collection is fast becoming one of the largest private woodturning collections. He owns my Maple Burl and Ebony hollow form as well (the one up for the calendar).
Hey - congrats to both of you. That kind of international recognition and acceptance really validates what you do, beyond our own shores. Not that either of you should have any question about your work. You set high standards for the rest of us.
Beautiful piece Anthony. I had never seen boxelder, though the tree was fairly common where I grew up. I would kill (well...) for a piece of that stuff. Did you pick it up in PA? Very nice work and I agree with Bud: you took full advantage of those flames.
