Sea Pod

Silver Maple, 4 x 7 inches.
This one seems hard to capture in a picture. It`s really fun to hold and explore. I`ve been looking at seed pods and aquatic forms and this piece happened. Wish I could show more angles.

Vinny, King of the pod people. I really like that it has an odd number of sides, this definitely gives it a more organic feel. May I ask what type of carving setup you're using and how much sanding do you do?

Thanks Ed. My set up is slowly getting better. Weecher flex shaft, a few dremmels, Kutzall burrs, flex cut chisels for the weecher, hand held 1.5 hp. router, various bits, files......and sanding pads for drill, and yes...tons of hand sanding! This piece took maybe 10 hours total work, but I think I can improve that. Becoming familiar with the process has taught me to ignore the clock. And the pain of it forces me to find better ways. It`s engrossing in a good way, for me anyway.
