Turned these today, but still have to go back and do some sanding on the rims to take care of the tear out on the ?cambium? layer. Had probs with tear out on the rims, but nowhere else.
Nice bowl set George but, be ware that plum is really bad for splitting and cracking, even when it is supposedly dry. You don't mention how big they are?
5 1/2", 5", and 4 3/4". They were turned green as were some that I turned about a month ago and are doing quite well. The one wood I have trouble with is apple. Plum doesn't seem to give me much trouble. Hopefully these will make it like the ones previously. They were turned from the very same log as the ones from a month ago.
A little CA along the base edge of the bark will help hold it on the wood. I assume that with the natural edge and all you are not worried about warpage. With this type of bowl I prefer a bit of warping, jut no cracks. Nice work you've shared with us. Keep it coming. 8)
