Roger, I sit here looking at this piece and I like what you have done. But something looks off about it and I can't quite put my finger on it. It might be the presentation, with the grain running off at an angle. Maybe if you could post another pic with the grain either vertical or horizontal it might show better. Then again it might just be me. What is your thought on the finished piece?

Doug, I did not give any thought to the grain direction. I had planned to do a diamond presentation. I should do a smaller one and cut the square with the grain running though the corner.

I think it could be improve with a different orientation.
