Turned from Cherry (duh). 8 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" tall. Sprayed inside and out with red colored water based Lacquer. Nearly buffed through the outside. Did on the inside. Must not have been cured long enough because the inside lacquer came off in one huge sheet. Re-sanded, leaving only a remnant of the red color. Outside is slick as it can be. Still has a few marks in the lacquer though from the buffing too early. Any and all comments and critiques welcome.
I actually like the red outside and cherry wood inside even though that wasn't your initial thought. I think you should do a more literal very round "cherry" shape for this and really emphasize the candy red outside.
Mike, the red is really RED.
Great idea, Carrie. I might have to try that some time.
Thank all four of you. This was an idea I got several years ago from a fellow in another contest. He cut up a 2x4 and did a segmented piece and sprayed it with red lacquer. Came out very nice. Of course his was regular lacquer where mine is water based. I'm sure he didn't rush the cure time on it either. Another lesson learned. 8^)
Not sure what's going on for you. I can see it and it seems that others are seeing it as well. Have you tried logging out and re-logging in? Maybe check with Ron is you continue to have problems. Hope you can see it soon. I'd like to hear what you think about it. 8^)
