Black Locust Goblet

Description}: My second try for the fall challenge. This one was going well until while shaping the base, I ran off the tool rest... oops! Base was not salvageable and the stem broke right at the base. After the challenge, I turned a new base for it and finished it. Black Locust with 5 captive rings. 7 7/8" tall by 2 1/2" diameter. Stem is 4 1/8" x 5/32" Sanded thru MM grits and finished with Formby's Tung Oil Finish.

Russian Olive Goblet

Description}: My first try for the goblet challenge. The stem was a bit too short and too thick for the challenge but I was pretty happy with it for a first try. Russian Olive Approx. 6 1/2" tall and 1 1/2" in diameter. Sanded thru MM grits and finished with Formby's Tung Oil Finish.

Description}: East Indian Rosewood and Curly Maple, approx 6" diameter and 7" tall. Sanded through Micromesh grits, 8 coats of Wipe on Poly and buffed.

Letter Openers

Description}: A coworker asked me to make him a letter opener. He decided he wanted it made from ancient kauri. Having never made one before I tried one with a piece of black locust first (bottom), finished with CA. The one for the coworker is ancient kauri finished with poly and paste wax.

Candlestick Set

Description}: I had a idea for these rattling around in my head based on a crystal set that my wife has. A contest on another site prompted me to go ahead and make them. I was thrilled to find that someone voted for me other than me! ;) Black locust and bocote finished with 6 coats of home made DO. 6 1/2", 8 1/2" and 10 1/2" tall. All comments and critiques welcome!

Description}: Had a small chunk of East Indian Rosewood that I couldn't decide what to do with... finally decided on a ring tree for my wife. Approx 1 3/4" high by 2 3/4" in diameter. Shellawax finish. Comments and Critiques welcome!

Description}: Was wandering around at my parents house a few weeks ago. There's a pile of logs next to his shed that was an oak tree that fell on the shed in a storm about 5 years ago. Noticed that most of the pile has fungus growing on it... Grabbed Dad's chainsaw and split one of the smaller ones in half and took it home. Last week, cut a blank out of the smaller half and turned this. Apparently needed more drying time as it is now oval ;) Approx 5" x 1 3/8" Finished with Deft Semi-Gloss. There was a wormhole in this piece, filled with coffee grounds just to try that out. As always, comments welcome!
