Description}: After having so much fun with my new best friend the Greenwood I figured it was about time I came back down to earth and did some real work! (LOL) Sycamore 130mm x 80mm x 2mm Pierced and waxed I guess it needs a proper name but I cant think of one I would like to think the onion shape has some historic ceramic cousin that I can use to create a title but maybe not! The piercing is asymmetric to the and just in passing whilst removing the wood from the piercing the tension in the piece relaxed and the opening went oval which I kind of liked. It has no foot (round bottomed) so any warpage is fine by me C&C welcome as ever Richard

First green natural edge

Description}: Ok I know this doesn't look exciting but for me its a big leap into the dark. I post this because I am so excited about my new found romance with green wood. I know I know there is nothing new or exciting about it really but wait! For me I haven't done any green work before. I have always used kiln dried wood Daft yes but there you go so this is the second green piece I have made and the first natural edge bowl I would imagine there is a high possibility of it splitting but at this moment I am like a kid in a toy shop. I came in from the workshop today soaking wet with a big grin on my face. Anyway I will let you make you minds up on this I just wanted to share with the world a little happiness regardless of the quality of the finished article!

Description}: Lime approximately 250mm x 100mm This is my entry in the International woodworking exhibition turning competition that is to be held in Alexandra palace this weekend. It nearly never got there as I am unable to go but am indebted to Margaret Garrard a turner from Yorkshire who is going to take it for me! My original entry was to have been a pierced piece but it had an accident at an early stage of its creation so I almost gave up on the idea of entering however I decided with only 4 days to spare to try and make something this is it! Description}: It seems an age since I last posted anything (apologies) I have not been finishing a lot recently and seem to have a host of unfinished unloved projects floating around my head and workshop. This I finished today Its made from Lime and is 120x100mm I sprayed it first and then pierced and textured it.

Ash hollow form with carved rim

Description}: I need your help with this one I have created this piece from a nice piece of Ash. I decided I would change the opening and spent ages trying to decide What would work. I have ended up with this slit and slightly opened rim but I am not sure it works. I have spent so long messing on with this I just don't know so I hope you will be able to give me an impartial view. Description}: Made from Ash this pierced piece measures approx 120mm x 100mm Named after a hard boiled sweet my gran used to give me! Pierced using a dremel type tool with a 1mm pointed burr the surface was lightly wire brushed to expose the grain slightly then the piece was coloured with black spray paint I was concerned after comments on other pieces that queried the idea of covering the natural beauty of the wood by brushing the surface I hoped to allow some of the wood quality to show. Description}: Oak each piece is 200mm x 200mm they are charred fumed and oiled off centre turned and wow they took a bit of getting used to! Meant to infer some of the mystique surrounding prehistoric cup and ring markings found in the West of Scotland Richard

Description}: I thought I would try something a bit different for a change. This piece is made from sycamore felled by a neighbour a few weeks ago. I used the pieces I cut out of the white area to make the black area wiring it all together took ages but I think the end result is what I set out to achieve ..... Different!
