Pimento Vase

Description}: This is the vase that I was asking help for a week or so ago. 11 3/4" tall and about 5" at the fattest point. Still has the dent below the void. I'll work on that later. The depth is too deep for the standard Termite so the hollowing only goes to 7". Don't think I can return it to the lathe so I guess I'll have to try the new shaft later. Anyway, finish is tung oil finish then buffed with Beall. If I can get the dent out I'll be putting it up for sale. If not, then LOML gets it for good. 8-)

Black Locust Pencil/Pen Holder

Description}: Just a chunk of my black locust stock I have laying around. I made this for my 6 yr old who asks for a piece from time to time. Found a couple of limb inclusions and a bit of burl as well. Pretty cool piece of wood actually. About 4 1/2" tall x 4" diameter. Approx. 1/8" thick top to bottom Finish is thinned lacquer wash followed by tung oil finish and Beall buffing

Honey Locust Burl

Description}: This is the last piece I turned before my wreck back in April. This piece of wood came from Dave Smith in a wood exchange on another forum. Approx. 4" diameter x 6" tall, 1/8" thick. Obviously not only burl, but a natural edge as well. A great inclusion on the side of this piece that was not showing at all before I started turning the blank. Finish is one coat of lacquer cut 50/50 with thinner (wiped off) and 2 coats of DO hand rubbed on. Beal buffed after that. Thank you Dave Smith for a great chunk of wood to start with. Questions and/or comments requested. 8)

Apple Weed Pot

Description}: 3 3/4" tall 2 1/2" wide 1 3/8" opening 3" deep Wall at opening 1/16" This was a chunk of the apple that Phil and I cut back in October. Not a lot of character, but a little bit of subtle grain that looks quite nice. Fun piece to make. BTW, I used the Nova Mini chuck that I bought from Phil. Worked well, but I sure wouldn't want to max out my lathe with it.

Newest Cedar Piece

Description}: This piece should have been an "OOPS." It started out about 7" tall with a grecian pedistal and outward turned lip. I was about 1/2 way through hollowing when the neck became larger on the inside than it was on the outside. Too bad, it really had a nice shape to it. Anyway, time for a design change. Turned out to be about 3 1/2" tall by 3" diameter. 3/32" thick. Finished so far with 3 coats of Danish Oil only. Buffed between coats with 0000 steel wool. Several more coats of the DO and 2 coats of finishing wax will finish it up. About a week to 10 days and it will be all done.

Maple Burl Hollow Form

Description}: This piece is 7x4 with a 1.25" opening. Finish is a couple of coats of DO after sanding to 600. Turned on face plate until I reversed it in my donut chuck. No foot, only a slight depression. Dark area is bark inclusion that I really thought I would turn through, leaving voids. Was a little disappointed that I never got to that point, but really like the final results. I look forward to reading your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions.
