As I approached my final wall thickness I had some checks appear in the end grain faces, either from the heat generated while cutting or simply from the end grain drying too suddenly when it got thin. I decided to inlay some disks of contrasting woods to cover the checks. The inlay pieces are white ash, honey locust and maple.

5 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=11032&title=summer-2014-cube-challenge-amp-trade&cat=723 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=11032&title=summer-2014-cube-challenge-amp-trade&cat=723 Sun, 20 Jul 2014 03:01:41 +0000 Secret Santa C&T Trade #3

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: A third faux inside out ornament. http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10962&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-3&cat=722 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10962&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-3&cat=722 Fri, 29 Nov 2013 14:02:00 +0000 Secret Santa C&T Trade #2

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: Another of my faux inside out ornaments. :D http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10953&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-2&cat=722 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10953&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-2&cat=722 Tue, 26 Nov 2013 04:41:16 +0000 Secret Santa C&T Trade #1

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: One of my faux inside out ornaments.

1 comment http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10952&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-1&cat=722 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10952&title=secret-santa-c-amp-t-trade-1&cat=722 Tue, 26 Nov 2013 04:40:12 +0000 C&T bowl

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: Red oak bowl 9 1/4" x 2 3/8" with a recessed bead detail below the rim and in the base.

3 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10871&title=c-amp-t-bowl&cat=717 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=10871&title=c-amp-t-bowl&cat=717 Sun, 11 Aug 2013 20:29:44 +0000 First piece from new lathe

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: Soft maple platter 12.5" square. Turned it on the bias to produce the bowl. Attempted to incorporate the parted off waste section into the lid and originally had a 2" maple bias turned cube as the finial, but it looked way too top heavy. Cut off the maple finial and made this walnut one with the square section to maintain the "theme", but I still think it looks too top heavy. I made another lid but I think I went too far in the other direction with it, as it looks too flat and plain to me.
