Description}: This was supposed to be a "Turned Green" entry for this year's AAW contest, but time and a ton of hand sanding got the best of me. The wood is Ash and the piece itself measures 16"d x 7"h. The middle half of the log had some spectacular olive type coloring that I couldn't resist. Not only were all the "extra" pieces turned and/or carved from cutoffs of the main blank, it came from a tree destined for the dump. This piece was too large for the photo tent available and will be re-shot later. I already have different variations in the works.

Cascade

Description}: Although this is pictured in the featured artist section of WR, I'm going to upload some of the images, including this one, to have in my regular WR gallery. Cascade came from the idea of having one layer of ribbons cascading over a second layer behind. That was the goal on two side of the piece (This picture doesn't show the layered areas as well). I'm pleased with the result but want to explore the layered theme more. This about 9" tall by 7" wide, curly maple.

Begin the next stage

Description}: Here is a continuing post of a special piece I'm working on. This roughing stage is now complete. The sections are down between 1/4 to 3/8" thick (some spots a bit thicker). Now I have to go back and work them down more, clean the intersections up, and start sanding :( According to my grandpa's old fish scale, this comes in just a shade under 3 lbs.

Description}: This is a picture of the next stage in process from an earlier post. There is still a ton of wood removal required before the final shaping and sanding occur. Keep note of this piece, it will re-appear in a special project later this year.

Roughout

Description}: This is a rough out for a special project coming up. It's curly, spalted maple and stands at 16" tall. Right now it's about 1 1/4" thick. Now it's time for Mr. Foredom.

Description}: This is my entry into the current AAW juried show that opened in Louisville. The show is titled "Step Up to the Plate". Although you can't see all the balls, there are four representing the home run path from just leaving the bat to going over the wall, to win the game (other side). If you made it to Louisville or have a catalog from the show, you've seen this picture. It's Walnut and about 8.5" tall. Just thought I would add another example of what I do.

Description}: This was a trial based off my entry into the 2005 AAW juried show "Re-turn to the Land of Oz". I learned from this piece and might pursue some more designs like this.
