Description}: One of my good friends sent me this beautiful piece of wood to work with, it has some beautiful figure with lots of Birdseye on the top and curl that surrounds the piece. I used ebonized cherry for the pedestal and collar Measures 14 5/8? tall X 9 1/4? wide, finish is Antique Oil

Description}: It's amazing what you can get out of a small block of wood! Neal Addy and I had a little wood trade and this is what I turned from the piece he sent. The blank was 4 3/4" X 3" and had a little problem area in the lite colored sapwood. It had a small crack that ran at least 1/2" deep and tapered off about half way down the blank. After studding the blank for a bit I decided to make one of the forms I had not made in a while and save the excess for a collar and finial trying to use every little bit I could of this beautiful little piece of wood. Measures 7 3/4" tall with the finial, 4 1/2" tall without and 2 3/4" wide No finish, just buffed.

Description}: This is my largest platter to date. It was turned in steps as I worked on this piece a few hours at a time over 3-4 days. It has some cool spalt lines, a little curl, some nice Ambrosia markings and a little bit of blue stain for good measure. I added some texturing and some beads on the rim and also some on the bottom side. 24 1/4" x 2 1/2" Antique oil and buffed.

Description}: This wood is awesome, I love it. Its very hard but turns pretty nice with a sharp gouge. It is such a bright color of yellow it almost hurts your eyes to look at it. A thanks to Dick Parr is in order for giving me a nice hunk of log to work with. Measures 7 1/2" wide X 4 1/4" tall. Antique oil, buffed.

Description}: I have had the Idea making one of these for a while, finally got around to doing it. I'm pleased with the form on this piece, but not so much with the stand, hope to make a new one for this one soon. I have a show coming up on the 10th and this one will have to do for now. This piece was so much fun I think I will work on a series of these, and maybe incorporate a few more Ideas I have. Bradford Pear. Measures 10" tall X 4 1/2" wide. Antique oil, buffed.

Description}: This is the Hard Maple bowl that I have the video clips of me roughing out on my flyingcurls web site. I finaly got around to finishing it! This is what I call a Limb Burl, these pieces usualy have some outstanding figure in them, the only problem is most of the time there is not enough wood covering the void that is inside the knot. Luckly this one had plenty of wood covering the damaged area and Im pleased with its outcome. It has some uniqe looking figure inside the bowl and on the bottom, it has a small inclusion and some wild figure radiating from it. It is the largest of this type of bowl that I have done. Measures 18 5/8" Long X 10" wide the bowl inside the wings is 6 3/4" and has an overall hight of 3 3/8". Finish is Gel Poly and Buffed. Critiques Welcomed!

Description}: I would like to thank JerryG for sending this piece for the wood exchange. This piece has a lot of character you can turn it a little and it gives you a totally different view of grain patterns, voids, worm holes and curl each time. I just love working with pieces like this! It measures 7 ?? wide X 4? tall. Buffed antique oil finish.

Description}: Been wanting to try one of these for a while. So the other day I actually had some turning time! I went to my wood pile outside and grabbed a piece of Silver Maple from the tree loaded with Ambrosia markings that I got back this summer. This piece has maybe one or two small blobs of the markings but had some nice spalting on one end and some nice curl. It is 14 3/4 Tall X 6 3/4 wide. Buffed Antique oil finish. Critiques Welcomed!

Buckeye Burl Hollow Form

Description}: This is some beautiful wood and it has so many different looks and features that it was hard to capture all its beauty in just a few pictures I think I took over 15 pictures of this piece to pick a few out of the bunch that shows it off the best. This piece is very light and only weighs a few oz has around 1/8 wall thickness. It measures 3 5/8" tall and 4 7/8" wide, wipe on gel poly for the finish and buffed on the Beall. Critiques, suggestions, and opinions are appreciated and welcome!

Description}: Travis Stinson was very generous with some of the Bradford Pear taken down by Hurricane Katrina that he was fortunate to get (Thanks you Travis) . I think every piece turned of this tree has had some special features, and this is # 4 turned from this tree. This was a crotch piece that he gave me and every piece turned so far from this tree has had a void featured in it so I went along with the rest and utilized this feature too. It has some nice curl also, but I could not get it to show up as good in the picture as in real life. It measures 5 1/4" tall x 9" wide finish is Gel Poly.

Description}: This hollow form has curl that almost surrounds the entire piece. It came from the stump of a Silver Maple that had all that Ambrosia in it that I posted a while back. This is also the first time making a finial for one of my hollow forms. Measures 10 1/4" tall with the finial and 6 1/4" without it and is 5" wide, finish is wipe on poly and buffed on the Beall! critiques, suggestions, and opinions are appreciated and welcome!

Description}: This is some of the whitest maple I have ever seen and very unusual grain also. It was Given to me from A woodturning Freind It has a Bradford Pear collar that has some nice curl. It measures 4" high X 6" wide, finish is Gel Poly and Buffed on the Beall.

Description}: Here is some of the Hard Maple I have been getting. This one is loaded with curl a lot of it don't show in the pics. This is some great wood to turn and sanding is Great! Easy to get a smooth as glass finish. It has a Ebony Collar and stands at 6 1/2" Tall X 4 1/2" wide. Finish is Gel Poly and buffed with the Beall.

Description}: This one is loaded with curl and some red flame has a small amount of spalting and a small section of bark inclusion. I also have the core of this one and the NE ash one to finish. This Bowl came from the first batch of BE I got back last summer, I still have a few nice blanks of this tree left, but I think I might let it spalt a little before I finish them. It measures 11 1/4" wide X 4" tall finish is wipe on gel poly and buffed on the Beall. I could not get all of the curl to show in the pics Jim

Description}: This was setting in the shop for a long time and spalted on me! It was a large bowl blank, that I never got to so I cut it and made a HF from part of it. It measures 8" tall X 5 3/4" wide. The collar is made from ebony, finish is wipe on gel poly, and buffed on the Beall. And there is a little curl in places.

Description}: This is some of the brightest Osage Orange I have seen. It almost hurts your eyes to look at it. The pictures don't give the corect color. Its a very hard wood but finishes nice and smooth and easy to sand. It measures 6 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" wide, with an Ebony collar. Finish is Gel Poly and buffed on the beall.

Description}: This is some of the prettiest wood I have worked with, it is the largest piece of exotic wood also. I usually just turn wood I find myself, but My good friend Mr. Big Mike Stafford sent me the awesome piece of wood to make my wife a gift. She loves it! Thanks Mike. I usually sale most of my work I only have a few I don?t want to part with, but this one will go with the turnings I have received from friends and my keepers. It?s hard to show all the beauty in this piece, the camera can only capture a small section of how it looks! It?s kind of strange you can look at the top angle and see something totally different than when you were holding it looking at it from the side. The collar is Ebony and it measures 6 ?? tall X 4 ?? wide This piece was turned from a whole crotch log section with the pith in. Got to find some more of this stuff!

Description}: I have had the Sorby texturing set for a few weeks, and decided to get some play time on it. Since my shop time has been cut way down the past few months, I figured a platter would not take much time to finish. This Cherry plate was from part of a crotch that had some cracks because of some pith areas. It has been setting around for a while and I almost threw it out in the burn pile a few times. so I put it on the chuck to try it out, and If it messed up it would be no loss. this tool is very simple to use for the texturing and the patterns are only limited to your imagination. It measures 11 1/2 wide x 3/4" thick. Finish it wipe on Gel Poly.
