It's plum. That's why it cracked so bad. 4 colors. I didn't fill in the crack since this was practice, but now I think it looks kinda neat. The crack gives it depth, in my opinion. The worst part about this is that my wife now wants me to paint the kitchen in this style. http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=4057&title=spicey&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=4057&title=spicey&cat=500 Tue, 30 Jan 2007 22:02:02 +0000 Cloud

by: jgo317

Description}: Here is one I was going to throw out due to the finish being so bad. The wood is maple, but just wouldn't take a finish. When I read an article in Woodturning about using faux painting, I decided to try it on a couple of pieces destined for the fire. The paint is acrylic with acrylic sealer. I used several colors.

6 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=4056&title=cloud&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=4056&title=cloud&cat=500 Tue, 30 Jan 2007 21:56:52 +0000 81

by: jgo317

Description}: Textured and wire burnt. He was asked to go with a man to his fathers house to help him sell it for a fair price. The father is recently deceased. They had no idea what they were going to find in the basement. This guy had a woodshop in the basement with all kinds of exotic woods and tools. Neither Dad or the other guy had a clue as to the worth of these woods and so when dad said he'd have me come look, the guy said "ahh, I'll just sell you the wood for $30 and auction off the tools". These are just five of the woods I received for mere pennies from an unknown turner. May he rest in peace. Any guesses on how it will turn out?

2 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2929&title=mulberry-before&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2929&title=mulberry-before&cat=500 Sun, 23 Jul 2006 12:27:46 +0000 Tulip Goblet

by: jgo317

Description}: Ambrosia maple. 6" tall.

4 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2914&title=tulip-goblet&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2914&title=tulip-goblet&cat=500 Fri, 21 Jul 2006 03:07:14 +0000 Silver maple

by: jgo317

Description}: I have a lot of this stuff behind the garage under a tarp. Awesome color/patterns. Plus, the worm holes add character.
