maple bowl and vase

Description}: latest from the firewood pile... found a nice piece of crotch wood and was able to get a nice 8x4 NE bowl and then get a small vase 6x5 out of the remnants from cutting the blank...finish is deft laquer burnished after the laquer was dry with shavings is all the buff i did. thank for looking

dyed vase

Description}: trying my hand at dying some wood ...this was dyed red with Ritz fabric dye dried and then dyed green ..buff with 0000 steel wool on the lathe and polished with bees wax. the wood is Alder...6"x3" Thanks for looking

Description}: found this pic of a dc hose setup for the lathe thought it might be a good idea for others. this guy set it up using the banjo with a dowel inserted to hold the pipe and then can move it close or farther away....just thought it was a unique idea. Bob

first deep hollow vases

Description}: trying my hand at deep vases...these are the first 2 I have done..left one is complete ..right one is still in the works as u can see ..the lean is because of tenon still on it. Both are cedar 12" high x31/2 at top tapering to 2" at bottom Fun but a challenge for a beginner especially with a home made rig..learning an making the right tool and cutter to work with Bob

Description}: I was given several pieces of this wood ..was told its mainly in hawaii ...high end furniture wood so im told...soaked in detergent and let dry for 2 weeks 10"x3"deep

scraper sharpening

Description}: This is how I sharpen my scrapers..this was shown to me by Bud G. Table is set to 40 degrees and rotate the scraper from center to far left and then far right with it flat on the table. By doing it this way and getting the cutting edge far up the tool's side it does nicely inside of bowls...very smooth.

Description}: made from 1x1 square tube 2" long drill 3/8 holr in the bottom of the tube and welded nut over the whole for a lockdown (no taps availiable)by doing that it allows the tool to be rotated in the holder when u set it up. Rod is 7"long by 3/8 set at 40 degree angle

Description}: the vase is black walnut from a 4" 6" diameter log that Dreamer and I picked up at a rest area outside Reynoldsburg ohio. The bowl on the left is from a block of alder that wound up having alot of punk rot in it when i cut it up but had to try one anyway...i liked the natural edge..it came out ok but not great.

Description}: well here it is ..the finished bowl that I posted pic's of the large blank..came out pretty good I thought..finish is a mix of 1 part laquer an 1 part thinner applied like friction polish. thanks for looking
