Pear and Beech Goblets

Description}: Made a couple of goblets to use at a week-long historical reenactment event. The one on the left is made from pear wood, the one on the right is beech. Both finished with walnut oil, and lined with beeswax. The pear goblet couldn't take the temperature changes from being filled with cold liquids and cracked. The beech one worked great, and I still use it regularly.

Green-turned Pear Bowl

Description}: Turned this piece thin out of freshly cut pear wood, and let it warp to shape. Finish is shellac and walnut oil. This was a tough piece to photograph, and I wasn't able to really capture the full shape, but I was really happy with how it came out. Gave it to my mom for Mother's Day.

Small Spalted Beech Bowl

Description}: Very thin spalted beech bowl about 4" in diameter, made from wood harvested in Randolph MA. Finish is shellac and oil. Made this while playing around at a demo at a local fair and trying to see how thin I could get. Was really happy with how it turned out, then I dropped it while showing it to someone, and it cracked. I was able to repair the crack, but then one of the other demonstrators spilled a bottle of CA glue on it. Lots of hand sanding later I was able to save it, and gave it to a friend who was admiring it in my collection.

Medieval Triangle Chair: 10-2013

Description}: Replica of a medieval style triangle chair. Maple, with oak seat. All wood was riven from green maple, turned, and assembled within 2 weeks of cutting the tree. Milk paint for decoration, with oil finish. Because this is a historical piece, only tools available at the time were used, and no sanding was done on the finished piece. Maple harvested from fallen tree in Quincy MA. Oak harvested from fallen tree in Braintree, MA.

Description}: A cherry goblet that I made for our club's Christmas Gift exchange. Finish is walnut oil, and the interior is lined with beeswax to provide some water resistance. Cherry wood was saved from tree felled by Hurricane Sandy in North Plainfield, NJ.
