Description}: This is Silver Maple....5 x 8.25 inches This ....."thing", was swimming around in my head since the last one, so finally it is here and can leave me alone. There is no finish on it yet and I thought I`d post it as is for now as I kind of like it as is. Will apply a finish though...silver Maple is prone to turning gray and it is showing signs of that already. This is my third one.......V Pod 3

Description}: This is Box Elder, 5 x 9.5 inches. I used a light and a dark piece of Hornbeam to hold the threading. I have a Carbatec threading jig, but chasing seems easier than setting it up. Maybe it will come in handy if I ever need to produce many at a time. The finish is one heavy application WOP, 3 days dry, and the usual buffing sequence. The thinness of this one helps with the eloquence factor when held. Also, I`ve come to prefer the feel of WOP over lacquer, not to mention it`s better durability. C n C welcome and helpful! Thanks!

Description}: Silver Maple, 4 x 7 inches. This one seems hard to capture in a picture. It`s really fun to hold and explore. I`ve been looking at seed pods and aquatic forms and this piece happened. Wish I could show more angles. Comments and critiques are always helpful!

Description}: Walnut end grain, measures 4 x 7 inches. Who ever heard of an 8 sided seed pod?....3, or 5...that would be easier. Seemed like 16 while working on it!. I added just a little honey amber and antique maple transtint thinned a bit with laq. thinner to help the grain jump a little. The finish is WOP. C n C welcome

Fat Cherry Burl

Description}: Cherry Burl, 7" wide and 9" tall. A Slightly different take on the finial, it twists all the way down. Actually, I`m not sure the whole piece really works together at all......but there it is.

Platter and Hollow Form

Description}: Platter is Maple, 10.25 inches The form is 5.5 inches The texture is rotary chisel, wire brush, black gesso and trans tints. I later added tints to the form to make them a set. (the form was wet turned slowly and erratically for the effect)Haven`t posted lately but have been busy! C + C`s are helpful.

Description}: 17 x 2 inches I`m a little uncomfortable posting this one as I don`t feel this has evolved enough yet, but here it is....it`s influenced by Doug Fischer and Nick Agar. Walnut, transtints, gold leaf,gilders waxes, colored briwax, metal paint, homemade punches, carving and maybe some more stuff I can`t recall, lol. C+C`s are helpful.

Walnut Vessel

Description}: 6 inches wide and 13 inches high The top texture is a small dremmel bit, "ping" hammered and burnished. The bottom texture is carved with the Arbortech. I used black Gesso and India ink for the color. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Description}: These range in size from 4 to 6 inches high. The openings are 5/8 and 3/4. A fair days work. The texture is wire brushing. Finished with Tung oil, lacquer. The difference in shape shows my so far inconsistent eye for copying the same shape from memory, lol.

Description}: 6 inches high by 9 inches wide A very gnarly cherry burl with turquoise stuffing. Unfortunately I goofed with the texturing.....the busy wood just didn`t need it. Reminds me: sometimes the most important thing I can do is the thing I don`t. Hopefully, someone will overlook the overkill and deem it worth purchasing!

Description}: 8 1/2" high by 2 3/4 " wide. This is Canary wood And Cocobolo. It is thinner than it appears in the picture because of the size. I wanted to try scaling down the size I usually make this form. Is the base too chunky? Tall? All C + C welcome, fire away.

Primitive Ways

Description}: This is Russian Olive, 7"wide and 6.5 wide. It has a Tung oil, lacquer sealer, red mahogany briwax finish. I`d love to say I used a carving gouge, but in truth?.....I whacked the whole thing with an Arbortech. Kind of a primal urge........"Primitive Ways" For those who have not used one, the Arbortech can be VERY very dangerous and one should progress very slowly when becoming acquainted with it. A turner was almost killed when one grabbed and it ran up his neck. Ugly. Always use it so that it wants to run away from you! I use a variable transformer with mine so I can adjust the torque.

Description}: I have some plain looking Walnut in the shop and it encourages me to experiment. This one wasn`t planned out, just wound up here. It measures 10 x 7.5 inches. All the black elements are cherry, ebonized with black sharpie and India ink. I used pre catalyzed lacquer in a can for the finish. Suggestions and observations are welcome!

Description}: Well I guess the type of wood is irrelevant, I think it was Maple? Really a practice session with a needle scaler,lol. I used India ink and spray lacquer for the finish. Measures 5.5 inches tall

Description}: Lots of trees last December..the more I did the more they evolved. Hopefully next years will be better. I`ll start them MUCH earlier though! I liked using Mesquite firewood the best.

Description}: I thought this was a really nice piece of wood...It was wet, and I like the way the cambium layer shrunk up....about 7 inches tall. There is more red and curl going on the rest of it.
