Description}: In case you don't have any sushi to put on the plate, you can turn it upside down and stick a votive in the center. Voila--candle holder.

Description}: Top view of the very shallow plate/bowl. The figure in the grain changes as with the ring orientation across the piece of wood. The plate is raised on a small foot. See the photo of the bottom for details.

Black Cherry Bowl with White Sapphire in Rim

Description}: Made from a piece of black cherry that I got from my local AAW club. There was a crack near the pith that cut into the rim, and instead of making the bowl shorter to remove the crack, I enlarged it and set a white sapphire in the rim. It adds a lot of sparkle. Approximately 6" diameter. Finished with butcher block oil, and buffed.

Persimmon Bowl

Description}: Green turned persimmon natural edge bowl. It has a knot on the back side that caused some great textural rippling in the wood as it dried, but no cracks. I can't wait to get more Persimmon. Lovely stuff and it takes a beautiful finish.

Description}: A lidded box with an offcenter wedge-shaped lid. Lid is walnut and the box is red bud.

Garnet Box

Description}: A small box (approx 3" x 3") made from a holly branch. I had some 3mm loose garnets so I added them as embellishment to the top of the box in the center of the ring pattern, and also to the knot on the side of the box. They add a little sparkle when you pick the box up and turn it around. Finished with tung oil, and beall buffed. The lid has a soft suction fit.

C&T Goblet

Description}: Bradford Pear Branch. 6 3/4" Tall. The Bowl is 2" wide and 2 1/4" high. The stem is 4" long and 1/16" thick. It bends just a little. Finished with Tung Oil. Not my best photography skills--I'll try again with natural light this weekend.

Black Locust Box

Description}: Round Box made of Black Locust. The lid has a crack that I was able to stop with CA glue. I notice it but people who pick up the box never seem to see it. Funny how that works :)

Maple Root Flare Bowl

Description}: This is a simple bowl shape with a small foot, but the figure in the wood is the star here. Is there a word for the mottled pattern? It makes me think of leopard-print. Finished with Watco Butcher Block oil. Approximately 10" diameter.

Sycamore Bowl

Description}: I won the roughed-out blank for this bowl at my local AAW chapter meeting as a doorprize. Thanks to Terry Eiler for the wood and the rough shape :) This is sycamore, finished with danish oil, then buffed and waxed with Carnauba wax. It's a gift for my mother-in-law.

Orange Platter

Description}: I went to a workshop by Jimmy Clewes a while back and saw him demonstrate an ogee shaped platter with a dyed rim. He used multiple colors--I stuck with just orange. The wood is a figured maple from Rockler that has fantastic ripples. Finished size is just under 12" across and about 1.5" high.

Description}: This is a "Bowler Bowl". The shape is very reminiscent of a bowler hat. I keep putting it on the cat to see if he'll wear it like a hat, but he doesn't seem to care for it. Too bad. Would have been a good picture.

Box Elder Box

Description}: My teacher gave me a piece of this lovely flame box elder. I cut it in half, to make two small boxes. This is the one I made today. The remainder is waiting for my husband to turn. It's a simple shape, but I focused on clean cuts and finishing, and now I can't seem to put it down. It feels great in my hands.

Small Cebil Box

Description}: This box is about 3" wide. It was an attempt to take a drawing and convert it to a turning. It definitely resembles my drawing but falls short in a couple places. I need to convert my drawing to a schematic with measurements next time if I want a closer match.

Elm Bowl

Description}: I made this bowl during my wood turning class at the Craft Alliance as my first closed bowl shape. I used a Ray Key cutaway scraper to get under the lip of the bowl. It has a lot of worm holes on the surface but none actually go clear through the sides. It's finished with danish oil.

Mulberry Natural Edge Bowl

Description}: This is my first natural edge bowl. The bark was not completely in tact, so the top edge has been sanded to smooth rough edges, but otherwise left in its natural shape. The finish is deft satin spray lacquer.
