First Segmented Lighthouse Turning

Description}: After getting a sled built and calibrated to make 12 segment rings, I tried making a lighthouse with the rings and this is what came out. It took me quite a while to get the hang of segmented building and turning and found many useful tips here on this site. Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas. The center section is made of tapered staves then turned and painted with an interesting paint that is labeled as Granite.

Description}: I've been turning for about a year now. Last year when I did this first lighthouse it was because I'd volunteered to make it as and award in memory of a very active member of our boating group that had passed away. For about six months I lamented the decision since I had no idea how I was going to do it. As with many things, once I get started, it becomes more fun and by the end of the project I was really into the craft. So, of course, I bought a new lathe, built some segment cutting sleds for my table saw and haven't looked back. I'll post some more recent photos as I've made 7 since then and have one in the shop getting close.
