negative space design with color

Description}: I haven't shared anything in quite a while. My old camera went kaflooey, and the new one I could not get the pictures down to the tiny 75 size this site needs. Recently I found a way to get the pictures to fit this site. This is my latest piece, of the design I call: Working at Cross Purposes, and I added color to it. Bleached Sapele (which is why you see variation in the color) and acrylics. About 10+ inches.

Description}: bowl from a board spiral hollowform! Made from shedua lumber. about 8 inches in diam this may be the first ever spiral hollowform from a board. I have never seen one done before

Industrial Geometric

Description}: Walnut & copper. I had expected when I made this that I would have had trouble with all the cross grain cutting & expected blowouts on the over 300 corners. But the turning gods were with me & all came out perfect. Hope you enjoy this rather "industrial" looking turning

Description}: I'm still on the wall hanging kick. this one 10 inches, walnut & copper. My last one was fluted to get the design, this one is a pyramidal "pleat" design. I love the colors in this & I hope ya'll do too.

Broken Circles within Circles

Description}: Spalted Maple 10 inches in diameter. Look closely, the circles alternate, and only go 1/2 way around. I have been experimenting with my methods. This is my newest, and I am closing in slowly on differing ways to make negative space designs. Almost each one has needed different ways to achive my design goals. I have now given this process about 15 months. Hope I'm nearing the end! Hope you enjoy

Description}: This is the piece I have been working to achieve in my quest for "negative space design" It's maple, 9 inches and weighs 3 oz.!!!More air than wood! It has been fun experimenting and hair-raising too! Sure took concentration and gentle tool control. Hope your eyes enjoy this...

Description}: I loose long thin tools in the sawdust in my shop. My hands getting old too and I drop slick things. So to treat myself I got my brain in gear for a new obsession .. 12flats per row,offset in brick pattern to decorate a tall box. All my rifflers, files, etc. now have a home. Description}: We have had nothing but rain for 2 months. My gardens are dying and it's gonna be slim pickins at the dinner table next winter. I decided that I needed to appease the sun god and request some sun. I hope my new adventures in woodturning (negative space designing) might just impress the heck out of the sun god...so here it is

A Tribute to my Grandfather

Description}: My grandfather was a WWII vet and bricklayer by trade. When RA crippled & burned out his joints, he was left with clubs as hands. Yet he designed and sewed quilts for all his grandchildren. I wanted to honor his memory (he's been gone 50 yrs) and make a quilt from wood. This is what I came up with. Thanks Grandad, I still have the quilt.

Fish Bowl

Description}: Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum . This is the first segmented and Laminated bowl I ever made. Some people see the fish right away, others need to refocus their eyes. (I only have a pocket digital & use Windows paint program to get this small enough, so I'm sorry it's a bit fuzzy)
