"Medicine Wheel" Segmented Vessel

Description}: This was my third Art Show entry this year. I call it Medicine Wheel and it contains 881 pieces of Maple, Purpleheart, yellowheart, Bubinga, Bloodwood, Ebony, Zebra Wood and turquoise inlace. The shape is copied from a Native American pottery piece (late 1800s) and I included all the sacred colors and numbers from the Cherokee Medicine Wheel.

Cross Roads Segmented Sphere

Description}: This was another Art Show entry this year. 426 pieces of Walnut, Yellowheart, Bloodwood, Ebony, Maple and turquoise inlace. The pedestal has 112 pieces of walnut, ebonized. I did win a 1st place ribbon at the show this year with this piece. I don't have the dimensions but the sphere is almost the size of a bowling ball.

Description}: This piece was fun to build is a Christmas gift for my parents. It contains 502 pieces of Purpleheart, Bubinga, soft maple and hard maple. It measures about 8" tall and 8" in diameter.

Description}: 436 pieces of walnut, paduak, maple, yellowheart, and bloodwood. First time doing this shape which I enjoyed very much. I didn't measure it but it is about 10" tall.

Description}: 291 individual pieces of Figured Maple, Ebony, Paduak, Bubinga and Yellowheart. A neighbor gave me about 500 bd feet of this figured maple that his father-in-law milled and stored in an old shed for almost 30 years.

Description}: Contains 561 individual pieces of Paduak, Bubinga, Purpleheart, and both hard and figured Maple. Stands 13" tall and is my first attempt at a vase or anything other than a bowl. Also my first use of Inlace.

Description}: This contains 177 pieces and is made from Brazilian Rosewood, Paduak, Maple, Walnut, Purpleheart, White Oak and Zebra. It stands 4-1/8" tall and 7-7/8" wide at the rim.

Description}: This is my third attempt at a segmented bowl and I did have fun and learned quite while doing this. It is made from walnut, maple, wenge and purpleheart. It isn't perfect and I made quite a few mistakes and learned more about design, shape and especially the hardness of wenge...it is 10" in diameter and stands about 4" tall.

Second Segmented bowl finished

Description}: This is my second bowl turned, segmented or otherwise. It is made from Zebra wood, sycamore and walnut. It measures 7" talll and 10-1/2" wide. It maxed out my lathe and my skills but I am very happy with the results. The rim is approx 3/16" thick and tapers to 1/4" at the base. This was my first attempt at a plug in the first ring rather than a solid piece and it turned out well. I did have to buy a Oneway bowl rest and a bowl scraper because I was getting chatter and needed something to help scrape the inside. It is finished with blonde shellac and waterlox satin finish.

Description}: This is my first attempt at a bowl, segmented or otherwise. Walnut/QS sycamore zig-zag with QS White oak/walnut/QS White Oak veneer above and below the decor. The bottom is solid walnut because I didn't know how to do a ring/plug. Thanks, Tom
