Red Cedar - Hollow Form

Description}: Over twenty years ago, my daughter and I hauled a dead Red Cedar log out of the family woods. It sat around outside all that time, so I finally decided to see what I could do with it. It had many radial cracks, some quite deep, so I decided to make the cracks the features of the piece. I used a lot of CA glue to try to avoid explosions. The first attempt ended in disaster when I got a catch internally and the form disappeared. If I can find most of the pieces I will post a picture in the OOPS section. This piece is 4.5" around and 5" tall.

Norway Pine Bowl - 9"

Description}: My neighbor cut down a tree in his yard, so I thought I would experiment a little. I tried to mimic the type of bowls done with Norfolk Island Pine, but missed on the placement of the knots. Still came out Ok though. My neighbor liked it.

White Ash Bowl - 6"

Description}: This piece has a deep and lively grain that does not really come across in the photo. I originally thought it was black ash, but using 'Identifying Wood' by Hoadley, the microscopic end grain characteristics indicated White Ash. This book is a great resource when using found woods in particular.

Dish with Marble - Apple

Description}: This pretty little (6") shallow dish was coming along nicely. Then, as I was turning the base on the vacuum chuck, I heard a little 'pop'. Hmm, I thought, I wonder what that was. As you all know, the inside wall hit the outside wall, and I had an 'oops'. I glued the marble in the hole to nake it a change dish.

Description}: This urn was made for my Brother-in-law. The body is Wisconsin Black Walnut, and the cover birds-eye Maple with an ebony finial. The urn is 7" in diameter and 15" tall (body).

Description}: Cremation Urn in Wisconsin Black Walnut. The cover is Birds-eye Maple, with an Ebony finial. This urn is 7" in diameter and 8.5" tall (body).
