Description}: Of all the questionable pieces of wood I have turned, this buckeye burl the was most likely to blow up. It survived! WooHoo! It also made the juried art gallery at the 2010 Edmonds Arts Festival and the 2010 Lake Chelan Festival for the Arts.

Burl Nest

Description}: Black locust burl nest. The big bowl is 14" wide and 8" tall. Finished with walnut oil. Cored with a McNaughton system which is certainly thrilling to use on dry wood! R

Seriouslly Spalted Maple

Description}: This platter bowl is also from Bow River Woods. It's about as spalted as you can get and still turn. I finished it with Renaissance wax to bring out the shine in the hard spots.

Natural Edge Cedar

Description}: This is a chunk of western red cedar that I purchased at Bow River Woods. It's 10" wide by 5.25" high. Finish: NONE I sanded it to 800 and then burnished it with a paper towel. The cedar oils came to the surface and gave it a nice sheen and a very silky feel.

Elm Burls

Description}: I scored some elm burls the other day. Some of them were huge (2 feet across) Here are three that were smaller and stored in a woodshed. They are 7 inches, 5 inches and 5 inches wide. I can't wait until the big ones dry (they've spent the NW winter outdoors). Comments welcome. R

Natural Edge Bowls

Description}: I'm at the Edmonds Summer Market tomorrow and natural edge stuff sells well. My bowls from this week: Lower left - 8" cherry Upper left - 7" hawthorn Upper right - 6" holly Lower right - 5" dogwood All finished with walnut oil. The angel of this picture kind of distorts the sizes.

Small Maple Bowl

Description}: I've got a big hunk (19" round X 12" high) blank roughed out of this same wood. It will be my biggest project yet. This one is 5"w X 3"h Finished with walnut oil.

Pecan Bowl

Description}: 9" wide by 3.75" high The pith makes this bowl pop. It also made it tricky to turn as it was much softer than the rest of the piece.

Description}: Whew! Hard wood. Hard work. 10" wide by 5.5" high. The worms were working on this hunk of wood. Another good reason to wear a facemask.
