Mesquite Goblet - Fall 2011 C&T

Description}: Mesquite finished in WOP. 7" tall x 2 1/8" wide. Stem is 3/16" wide. The captive rings are 1/4" in width so they may look a little heavy. They can be cut off if the recipient desires.

Description}: 15" Diameter finished in 12+ coats of WOP. Coffee and CA fill. This is a vegetable platter and the grooves are for carrots sticks or tomatoes. Crackers sit on the outer ring. For my brother's birthday, man he's getting old!

Platter from Avocado

Description}: Yes that is Avocado. I picked it up at the DWR. I originally roughed turned it as a "Y" shaped platter but it warped past the point of saving the "Y" section so here is the rounded version! 10" x 1 1/2". WOP and Beall buffed. Some brass shavings added into the voids. Comments or Critiques welcome

Mesquite Calabash Natural Edge Bowl

Description}: Chilean Mesquite - Approx 4" high x 3/12" widex 1/8"thick. The bottom is totally round so it rocks, but if spun stays straight upright. Actually it isn't a bowl but a vessel or hollowform.

Chilean Mesquite Bowl II

Description}: 10 3/4" Wide x 4 1/4" Tall - just over 3/8" Thick Wipe on Poly finish. Coffee and CA fill. This is from the same log as the previous bowl. I took a picture from a lower angle to show the foot which has a reverse flow. This bowl is a bit thicker than I normally do. Intended for use. Critiques and comments are welcome, good or bad!

C&T Miniatures Bowl and Box B

Description}: Eucalyptus Bowl finished in Polyurethane. 5/8" tall x 11/16" wide. Walnut Box finished in Polyurethane. 7/8" tall x 1/2" wide. The lid has a nice snap fit. These also are as one entry since I made four pieces and the entries are limited to two.

Description}: Walnut Goblet finished in Polyurethane. 7/16" tall x 1/4" wide. Stem is just over 1/32". Eucalyptus Vessel finished in Polyurethane. 1/2" tall x 5/8" wide. These are as one entry since I made four pieces and the limit is two entries!

Description}: This piece is about 12" X 10". The cracks were filled with coffee grounds and CA glue. The cup part is about 1/16" thick. Here's agood tip! Don't start a finish on a piece then move accross the country and then use a different finish! OOPS! Can you say strip it all down and start over!:/

Description}: 6 1/2" Tall x 5 1/2" Diam Africam Sumac, Lacquer finish. The white sap ring shows a nice contrast to the red of the hertwood. This pioece had alot of branchlets (my word), which created some very interesting grain. This one is for my wife! Comments welcome.

Acacia Candlesticks

Description}: Acacia candlesticks with captive rings. Finished in laquer. (The one on the right needs more coats) Respectively, they are 7 1/2, 8 1/2 & 9 1/2"tall. Widths are 2, 2 1/4 & 2 1/2" These were an exercise in 'precision turning as art' for me. My own term! What I mean is if you shot a line from the captive rings, perfectly horizontal, out to a point that lined up with the left edge of the tops, then all the design points line up. Try it with a ruler on your monitor. Looking from in front of the smallest one to the tallest, you only see one! I had fun! Based on Rude Osolnik's design.
