Build your own Pen Press by Robert Melrose | ||
I have received several requests for plans on how to make this pen press. Since I don't have plans, I took a couple pictures to show you how it works and give you an idea how to put one together. All the parts are available at Woodcraft and simular outlets. I glued 60 grit sandpaper to the bottom of the block for a better grip. The handle is turned out of hard maple and bored with a 1/2" hole in the bottom to slide over the clamp lever. The stop block and the guide blocks are dadoed (grooved) on the bottom to accept the t-track. The guide blocks have a v-groove in the top to hold the pen. There is one short piece for pressing in the caps and nibs in. The longer piece is the finished length of the lower section with the transmission in the correct depth. After cutting the longer guide block to the exact length of the pen you can press in the transmissions without worrying about going too far because the guide block act as a stop at the proper depth. The plunger on the clamp I molded with 2 part epoxy resin but you can make it out of whatever you choose. I hope this helps let me know if you have any questions.
